I started my career as a thin client software developer who double-hatted as a server and network administrator. Being an embedded software specialist, I was intimately familiar with x86 assembly and how operating systems work. When we got an infection on one machine, the free antivirus installed failed to remove it. I decided to figure out how the virus worked and tracked the changes it made to the OS and filesystem. I then manually reversed the process. This kick-started my interest in cybersecurity.
I was well-aware of the CISSP and CISM certifications, and when I heard about a new certification that would better fit my position (when compared to those above), I took it. I strived to learn more about the Certified Chief Information Security Officer (C|CCISO) program and took the opportunity to become one of the first certified CISOs in the Philippines. My friends spoke very highly of the EC-Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH). They went for C|EH and bragged about its broad coverage of the domain. Well, the C|CISO material lived up to my expectations of EC Council material – clear, concise, and understandable. I was amazed by the extensive delivery of ‘Business Impact Analysis.’
All in all, C|CISO was worth my time and effort.
