IoT technology is increasingly connecting multiple devices to the internet. Along with the high connectivity and diversity of these devices for information dissemination, they also bring along a number of security challenges. IoT’s complex architecture could very well lead to significant vulnerabilities across its different layers, increasing the threat to information security and privacy. Blockchain technology is seen as promising for establishing trust between anonymous nodes/parties and further developing the trust aspect of the IoT domain. Incorporating the BCT’s reputable mechanism of cryptographic hash, distributed consensus, and decentralized operations to help make the data flowing through IoT immutable, the current manuscript discusses how blockchain technology could be applied to IoT across its different layers to make it more secure.
